But you're not alone. In January 2004, the American Red Cross released a new Family Caregiving Program. This exciting new program offers you a helping hand by providing a variety of information-packed sessions covering topics that can help you provide the care that your loved one may need, including subjects such as home safety, healthy eating, and bathing, as well as legal and financial issues. There's even a session that helps you take care of yourself. This new Family Caregiving Program has been designed to:
Each module is offered in a one hour session and for a nominal fee. No matter which module is selected, participants will enhance their skills, reduce stress and build confidence. Medical Equipment Loan ProgramThe American Red Cross provides temporary loan service for small medical equipment. This equipment is available at our Oshkosh, WI office. The loan program has been made possible through funding by the Oshkosh Area United Way and private contributors. The items in the loan program are loaned out for a 90-day period. The fee is $15.00 for one item, and $10.00 for each additional item. We can extend the rental for one 90-day period past the original due date. If equipment is needed longer, we recommend user contact their insurance company to inquire about purchasing equipment for themselves. Senior FriendsAs we get older, some of us lose interest in life or find challenges too difficult, we become depressed, forgetful, or just plain angry. At times like these, the best help we can get may be a friendly listener who can offer good, practical advice. Winnebago County Senior Friends volunteers are compassionate, caring individuals who are there to listen, provide companionship, understanding, and empathy to elders who are lonely and/or isolated within Winnebago County. Volunteer time commitment varies by match. Volunteers are asked to visit their match a minimum of 4 hours a month. Time spent together could include: FormsThe Americans with Disability Act Para-transit ProgramThe Americans with Disability Act Para-transit Program is available for Oshkosh residents that have a verifiable disability. The program provides low cost transportation in the city of Oshkosh for residents that qualify. In order to receive a card an application must be completed by the individual requesting the card and by medical personnel verifying the disability. The application may be obtained at the American Red Cross office or by calling the American Red Cross to receive an application through the mail. Once the application is completed, return it to the American Red Cross office for processing. Upon review, if the information provided meets the ADA requirements, an ADA card will be issued. The card will be mailed to the applicant with instructions on its use. Below is an explanation of the service provided:If you do not require a wheelchair to be mobile: your ADA card entitles you to a one-way cab ride for $1.00 during the hours of Oshkosh Transit bus service (6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday through Saturday). All other times (Sundays, evenings after 6:00 p.m., and holidays) the fare will be $4.00 per one-way trip. For insurance purposes, cabs are not allowed to back out of driveways, therefore you are required to get to and from the cab without driver assistance. If you require a wheelchair to be mobile: your ADA card entitles you to use Cabulance, a wheelchair equipped van transportation service. You must have your own wheelchair to qualify for the reduced fares. One-way ride fares for Cabulance are as follows:
The ADA card issued will be good for life or if temporary, until the expiration date which was provided by the health care provider completing the application. If you loose your card or need to update your information, a new card can be issued for a fee of $3.00 at the American Red Cross office. |

Caring for a parent, spouse or friend at home can be overwhelming. If you are like most caregivers you want to feel you are doing everything you can to provide the best care possible. Plus like many caregivers, you may have many other commitments including a job and additional family.
The program consists of nine individual topic-based modules for caregivers. Choose those modules that best fit your needs - they can be taken separately or in combination. Topics include:
