Military Services

The American Red Cross provides an exclusive worldwide communication service as a lifeline for military service members and their families. The Red Cross makes the connection by relaying urgent information, such as a family crisis, a death in the family, a financial emergency or a birth.

This line of communication helps military families cope with the separation and other special needs related to service in the armed forces, and it provides verification for military authorities to assist them in making decisions regarding emergency leave requests. The Armed Forces Emergency Services provided 196 families in the Army, Navy, Air Force and Marines with service during the past year.

This service also includes the “Get to Know Us” outreach program, which assists the local National Guard, Reserves, College ROTC, recruiters and their families. This past year this program reached 322 of our local military and their families.

Volunteers provide this connection between families and the military 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

When calling the Red Cross to send an emergency message to a service member family member, it is helpful to have the following information:

  • Rank/Rating
