Volunteer Stories

"Edith and I became volunteers in early 2001 on our chapter DAT.  In 2004 we qualified for DSHR.  Last year I was at Dennis in Alabama and Katrina in Mississippi .  We both were at Wilma in Florida .  It has been some of the most rewarding experiences of our lives. You meet such wonderful people.  Both clients and other Volunteers.  We regularly communicate with new friends all over the U.S."

"When I reach out to someone in need, I get a warm-fuzzy feeling in my heart. I have compassion for the hurt they are experiencing."

"Be it a fire or a natural disaster, the recipients are so very grateful for the Red Cross help."

"I started volunteering for the Red Cross in high school and started back up about 10 years ago.  I am thrilled to be a part of an organization that serves so many people in so many different ways."

"I think that most anyone can find a place at the Red Cross whether it be working in the office on those days you have free, giving blood, serving as a disaster services' volunteer or doing what I enjoy most, fundraising to help make all of the services possible.  It is my way of giving back to the community that has given so much to me."

Ask me how you can become a volunteer!

"I still remember at about the age of three watching ants rebuild after someone (me) disturbed their ant-hill. chaos and then rebuild, what impressed me the most was that these bugs would pick up injured ants and carry them home."

"I get great personal pleasure being the agent of the compassion of the American public. I get to do what everyone wants to do...to help create order of the initial panic and chaos, to literally help our neighbors and fellow country-wo/men rise from the ashes of their personal tragedy and rebuild who they are once again. That is powerful, and a great honor for me."

Janis Edwards

"I was originally asked if I would volunteer to be a board member for the East Central Wisconsin Red Cross to give more geographic presence/exposure for areas outside of Winnebago County. I continue to volunteer for the Red Cross as I enjoy the staff and people I come in contact with. They are very positive people and are willing to go the extra mile to help people."
